I have one word for you. Operations. The coolest, shiniest, most innovative "look at me!" social media idea ever can easily be tripped up by this one word. Foursquare specials, Groupons, Twitter deals, Facebook coupons are all methods used by major brands to get customers off their computers and into the store. They spend months planning, measuring, strategizing and partnering, yet so many forget this one key word: Operations.

Before rolling out a campaign, there are countless operations things to check:

Facebook Places has been out and about for the past few weeks now. Many of us have used it (or at least tried out out and turned it off), and there are definitely some good things, some bad things, and some downright ugly things about it.

My foray into social media (beyond using Facebook to "friend" people I haven't seen since middle school) began very very late. Over the past summer, I tried out Twitter with my own personal account. In June, I began working for The Women's Museum, a national women's history museum in Dallas, Texas. I did some research and, in October, told my boss that I wanted to Twitter. The following conversation ensued.

I've decided to do some short stories here to flex my long-atrophied writing muscles. I'm going to be choosing prompts from the book "Story Starters"  by Lou Willett Stanek. I'll bold the prompts (I may use more than one!), in case you want to do them yourself or just so you can see where I'm getting this all from! Some may be okay, some may be incredibly uninspired, but I plan to go in order. So, here we go!

We have to create a second post and it's lunchtime. Hence the lack of originality.
